There is no question that yoga is a very powerful tool in living better. Recently, my hand (or knee as the case may be) was forced, and I could no longer accommodate a six-year old knee injury and needed an ACL reconstruction. Through this first-hand experience and pulling from the anatomy-focused teachings of Simon Low, I’ve constructed this yoga therapy plan that had me:
1. off all pain relievers (including Tylenol) in one week;
2. riding a bike in 6 weeks;
3. losing weight during rehab rather than gaining the requite post-surgery 15lbs;
4. feeling, moving, living better than ever before
Based on the Ashtanga Primary standing sequence, this yoga therapy plan is not complicated and can be modified for any level. (I started doing everything on one leg!)
Yoga is more than bendy girls on the beach in an instagram feed. It is the greatest medicine you have to unlock your body’s magical power of self-healing. This class is truly for everyone, even those in active recovery from knee issues. Experienced yogis will benefit from revisiting and reexamining alignment cues and approaching familiar poses and sequences from a new perspective.
