Knees + Hip | 10hr Yoga Immersion

“Action is movement with intelligence. The world is filled with movement. What the world needs is more conscious movement, more action.”
— KBS Iyengar

How much do we know about how we hurt? Why? This immersion is where we give intelligence to action. We ask. We explore. We rebuild. There is no magic cure in addressing what hurts, but we are dedicating these few pressure hours to listening in to what our bodies and minds are trying to tell us.

Yoga for Rehab and Wellness | Where to Start?

This immersion is for students looking for techniques to alleviate discomfort. This is also for yoga teachers looking for skills to better understand your students’ experience and techniques that make the practice more accessible and more purposeful.

Session I | Yoga for Knee + Hips

12pm-5pm | Saturday, April 13

This workshop is for those who are looking for insight in addressing discomfort with knee pain and tight hips. This is great information for exploring your movement pattern and learning techniques for everyday that are beneficial on their own or in conjunction for your favorite activities. I HIGHLY encourage those with a passion for running, biking, who work in occupations with a lot of standing or walking. Additionally, this will be very insightful for those with ACL reconstructions or hip replacements.

These techniques were part of my own trial and error conducting my own physical therapy after my ACL reconstruction with a graft taken from my hamstring muscle.

Session II | Yoga for Low Back + Neck

12pm-5pm | Sunday, April 14

This is a huge culprit for so many people: painful low backs. In this session, we will dig deep into the causes of low back pain and how it sets in motion a domino effect of subsequent pain into motion. We will learn more about the connection between low back pain and neck pain and how to start breaking through the pain.

Daily Session Schedule |

12-2pm | Asana Practice - we will go through the sequence to understand and explore the sequence of movements in our own bodies.

2-330pm | Restorative- this 90 minute session will act as an extension of the specific sequence it follows.

330-5pm | Here we bridge body and mind and dissect the sequence. These are sequences that have been reviewed and vetted by a practicing physical therapist. We will learn the purpose of each movement and how the sequence is organized. We will discuss injuries, risks, limitations, adaptive practices and how to pro/regress postures for our purposes.

Tuition |

10hr including Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Units | $180 / $165 early bird (by Friday, March 29)

One day (Saturday OR Sunday) | $100

Payments may be made through The Studio Cleveland’s MBO | (Search “Mindy Sisco” under instructors top right corner to link directly to event)

This is a rare opportunity to dissect the practice in a way to allow you extract more. It would be an honor and a privilege to have you join!

Ashtanga Apprentice Program | 40hr Teacher Training Program

Jenny & Jay's Cafe.jpg

Ashtanga is a wonderful practice that gives students the opportunity to become familiar with a set sequence overtime. Here, you will learn my approach- one that is firmly rooted in therapeutics and making the practice accessible for all. We will take a deep dive into how things work, the benefits and limitations, how to identify dangerous movement patterns, how to re/progress postures and how to lead in a way where you are understood and enabling people to fall in love with the practice and their capabilities.

PROGRAM DETAILS | April 22-May 4 including the 10-day challenge, self-study suited to your own schedule and two 5-hr weekend days.

*As this is rooted in the Kaizen Yoga approach using the Ashtanga Vinyasa standing postures, this program will only be open to students that have taken at least 2) 10-day challenges with Mindy.

The 40hr program is organized as follows |

10 hours | Lecture

Sunday, April 28 | 10am-3pm (no asana after lecture, students may eat snacks during part II)
-2 hrs |Feedback Best Practices
-3hrs | sequence dissection; individual pose breakdown

Saturday, May 4 | 1130am-530pm (one hour for lunch)
-2hrs | Intro to AcroYoga Workshop
-3hrs | hands-on adjustments

10 hours | asana practice

In this program, you will work side-by-side with non-ttc track students. But having the experience yourself, not just knowing the poses, literally feeling them- you begin to bond with your student. When you say to them, “I understand how you feel,” it’s a statement of fact, not a filler for the conversation.

10 hours | Observation

In addition to attending class as a student, you will spend time learning how to read movements and body language to facilitate learning. This will be conducted by viewing classes conducted online in a time that works for you.

10 hrs | Practice Teaching, Self Assessment and Feedback, Self- Study

The only way to do it is to do it! Regarding teaching practice, you decide what format is best to practice putting this sequence into action. You may decide to organize a small class. You may want to lead a student 1:1. I want to make sure you are in a space where you are comfortable putting your tools to work.

-5hrs | Demo Teaching.

-5hrs | You will record each sessions (for private viewing.) You will review each session, give yourself your own feedback and as request specific feedback from me. This time frame also covers time memorizing the sequence.

I am so excited to work on this program with you. This program will give your passion and knowledge some legs and really take you into usable, accessible spaces.

Tuition | $600*

  • Included in tuition all workshops and classes including your 10-day Ashtanga practice session and the Intro to AcroYoga workshop and online follow up. *

Elucidate Retreat 2020

The Joy of Retreat All Year Long

More and more, we’re learning that waiting for something—and working hard to get it—gives us pleasure and makes what we purchase feel more valuable. Before cell phones and credit cards enabled us to have almost anything we wanted at any time, the shopping experience felt richer. Studies of consumption and happiness show that not only are people happier when they spend money on experiences instead of material objects, they’re happier when they relish what they plan to buy long before they buy it.
— Good Nature Travel

We know how enriching it is taking a step out into the world at large and the world of your inner self. Anticipating and preparing for the journey plants the seeds of appreciation and we want to grow that gratitude tree all year long.

About Elucidate 2020

This retreat aims to integrate movement with stillness, interaction with introspection, playfulness with sincerity. Tulum, Mexico is nothing short of a slice of heaven on earth. The life there is palpable.

There is the indescribable beauty of the white sand so fine it more closely resembles powder. In addition, there is something visceral about being in place where one of the world’s first civilizations began.

What Makes Elucidate Special

This is our FIFTH annual trip! Every year we become more intimately involved with Tulum. It is a place that is rapidly changing and our experience evolves with it. Our intention for this retreat is for you to experience Tulum as well. There are beautiful beaches all over the world. There are great teachers all over the world. There is amazing cuisine all over the world. Elucidate is different. We bring together the elements of world-class yoga instruction at a fully equipped studio, on the ground, local insight in navigating logistics, the rich Mayan history still being uncovered and meant to be felt with all five senses, and a foodie’s passion for flavors hidden off the beaten track. We love Tulum and we want you to know what we know, to taste what we taste, to love what we love.

Why do we travel if to retreat into the comfort of doing what we’ve always done? This “retreat” is an exploration of what is beyond our comfort zones: physically, mentally, spiritually, geographically, culturally, socio-economically and gastronomically. There are plenty of opportunities to take in the splendor of the Mayan Riviera visiting its’ various white sand beaches. Dinner will be another opportunity to explore local cuisine and support local businesses rather than opting for an all-inclusive nondescript menu. Participants will partake in a cooking class at a real Mexican home. Over six days, we will play, pose, sweat, serve, celebrate, experience and elucidate.

We hope you can join us for this refreshing retreat! You will come home relaxed, renewed and evolved! In order to keep this retreat intimate we will limit the number of participants to 10, so please secure your spot with your first installment by March 1, 2019. (Retreat to be paid in full by December 1, 2019.

How to Join |

Hip + Knee Anatomy and Physiology

Hip + Knee Anatomy and Physiology

Of the more than one million surgeries annually performed in the US, 720,000 are knee replacements 330,000 are hip replacements. More and more people are turning to yoga for ongoing care and maintenance after major medical procedures. This is an opportunity to better serve these students by understanding: the lead up to surgery, the process itself, and the experience of going through rehab after a major surgery.

Instructor Stephanie Kwok is a licensed, practicing physiotherapy who has specialized in joint replacements. Additionally, she has written the yoga anatomy curriculum for Mindy’s 200hr teacher training program and has insight on the overlap between physiotherapy and yoga and where the two worlds can diverge.

This two hour workshop will explain the basic parts and mechanics of the hip and knee. We will learn about problems that arise with these joints from traumatic injuries including what actually happens under the knife. She will explain the movement patterns that can lead to repetitive strain injuries and pain. Steph will explain the general protocol for knee and hip pain and injury and things we need to look for, to advocate for and to avoid.

Meet the Instructor

Steph graduated from Queens University in Ontario with a Master’s of Science in Physiotherapy degree in 2013. She has worked at two private clinics with a focus on orthopedics, helping clients return to the activities they love; and 4 years at a rehabilitation hospital mainly helping patients who were recovering from strokes or joint replacements. She took a one year sabbatical to teach English in South Korea where she met Mindy and fell in love with Kaizen yoga. Steph has taught the anatomy portion of Mindy’s Yoga Teacher Training course 3 times. Steph enjoys yoga, dancing, improv comedy, and skiing. She is currently living in British Columbia, taking a ski instructor course.

Top 5 Feedback Techniques Workshop

Top 5 Feedback Techniques Workshop

Learners need endless feedback more than they need endless teachers.
— Grant Wiggins

We are all learners. I will speak personally in different scenarios. I am learning how to do handstands (personal). I am learning about human anatomy and physiology (professional.) I am learning what triggers defiance in my partner (interpersonal.)

Feedback in action in one learning environment-

Also feedback in action; same techniques different application.

Why do I need this workshop?

Feedback is the key to getting what you want. That may sound greedy, but that depends what you want and how you go about getting it. For me as a yoga teacher, “getting what I want” is: students to practice in a way that is 1) non-harmful, 2.) conducive to learning more about one’s self and capabilities. The opposite end is spinning your wheels in perpetual frustration of not being understood. To me that looks like a student (ignorantly) yanking on their joints, or copying the person next to them. This can be broadened out to apply to pretty much anyone who interacts with others: Our students not following directions, our partners not acknowledging our efforts, our employees not being accountable for their mistakes. So the question stands- HOW are we setting up the scenario to get what we want- from our coworkers, our students, our children, our partners, our community? How are we facilitating the learning process?

What will I get out of this workshop?

Feedback is a skill, like playing the piano or multiplication. You’re not born knowing how to do it. Just like doing guided scales on the piano versus sitting down and trying to plunk it out, the more you practice, the stronger it gets. This is the means to getting what you want- being heard and understood. Missy’s Top 5 Feedback Techniques is the tool to being more effective both giving and receiving feedback. This tool makes you a better educator, boss, partner. This tool means more capable students, more productive staff, more understanding partners.

Who is the workshop for?

This workshop is for educators in a all settings- classrooms, studios, etc., team members who leading trainings or meetings, managers responsible for evaluations, students looking to better communicate with teachers, the list goes on and on. We can all improve our communication through sharpening our tools of feeedback.

Who is the facilitator?

Missy Springsteen-Haupt is in her 13th year of teaching 7th and 8th grade language arts in Clarion, Iowa. Her areas of expertise include writer's workshop and providing feedback that fosters growth. Feedback was the research emphasis of her graduate work. She blogs about teaching and writing at | themrshauptsteen.weebly.com. (Link in photo.)

English Teaching MA, English (research emphasis | feedback)

Iowa Council of Teachers of English Publications Co-coordinator,

Head of Teacher Writing Initiative National Endowment for Humanities

Summer Scholar, Folger Library Teaching Shakespeare Institute (2018)

Iowa Council of Teachers of English Fall Conference Presenter, 2014-2018

National Council of Teachers of English presenter 2017, 2018

What is her experience?

She is very accomplished and well respected in the field of middle school education. She uses her research-based approach to make writing accessible to all of her middle school students, including her large population of ELL (English language learner) students. She practices what she preaches by actively writing on a regular basis and maintaining a blog that is open to the public, and open to her students. She has been leading this Feedback workshop with yoga teacher trainees for three years. She starts with the common denominator of facilitating learning and explores how to apply that knowledge across the spectrum of applicable situations- the classroom, the office, the studio, at home.

She is an avid traveller and a great storyteller. It is a privilege to have her taking us through this process at Toula!

Yoga Specialists 40hr Teacher Training

save the date.jpg

This series takes one are of focus and does the deep dive. Crystals and inspirational quotes are great- but what about the student that can’t get down to or up off of the floor?

DECSRIPTION |

This teacher training module couples the knee and hip because rarely do things malfunction in isolation. We have an opportunity to learn the anatomy and physiology of the knees and hip joints with licensed physical therapist, Stephanie Kwok. We will learn how it works and begin investigating how it breaks down.

GUEST LECTURERS |

Other guest teacher, Melissa Springsteen, is a Language Arts educator. Her research emphasis towards her master’s degree centered on the art and act of feedback. We take the common denominators of educating and explore how to apply that knowledge to our classroom-the studio.

We will be working with one specific sequence, written by me, a curation of my own experience rehabbing my knee after my ACL reconstruction, and working with students who include dynamic athletes looking to play again after injury, students managing the long-term effects of strokes, students that have no clue how their body is held together and students on the verge of giving up. You will learn this specific sequence and how to mold it to be appropriate for each of the students listed above. Yes, there is common ground, there is a way. You just need to know how.

PROGRAM DETAILS |

The 40hr program is organized as follows |

10 hours | Lecture (may be adjusted per the needs of the group)

Ashtanga 10-Day Challenge | V

to end all parties (1).png

Snopacalypse 2019 couldn’t stop us last session! Here we go again!

All you have to do is sign up for the next session- ready to roll here. There is an option for first session students and returning ashtanga student.
_
A note about SESSION V | There price is $145 for students' first session which will include blocks. ($135 for subsequent sessions.) Here's why:

I'm so thankful for the growing number of students and think blocks are the most essential prop. Inspired by Marie Kondo's Shintoism + something my Acro friend told me-
handbalancers have their own personal plank of wood, their version of a yoga mat. Our hands are responsible for some much energy exchange- some call it woo-woo, I call it romantic- the idea of your hands cultivating an ongoing relationship with a familiar place. This relationship is reciprocal- energy shared it not energy lost.

Long story short, I want everyone to have your home base- a place to lay your hands. A place of support and surprises. (Remember the wow of first time you got your legs up in dandasana?) A place you come back to again and again.

Thank for indulging me. Always a blessing, never a chore. I can't wait to see you in February!

As always, AM session from 6am-715am and PM session from 1pm-215pm. Can’t wait!!!

Chronic stress is linked to the six leading causes of death. We hear it all the time: relax, slow down, breath. It’s not merely a matter of not making time, often I found it’s not knowing how. Learning how to relax is as much as skill as learning to tie your shoes. Come learn how to take care.

Andrea is such an amazing teacher. It is a blessing and an honor for her to be leading the restorative session. She is reiki master, has completed Urban Monk training, and is an 500-ERYT in the Anusara style. She is most calm and collected studio owner I’ve ever met.

Elucidate Retreat 2019

We're heading back to paradise for a fourth year in a row. Meet us in the clouds.

ELUCIDATE |

To make lucid or clear.

This retreat aims to integrate movement with stillness, interaction with introspection, playfulness with sincerity. Tulum, Mexico is nothing short of a slice of heaven on earth. The life there is palpable.

Beyond the obvious beauty of the white sand beaches, there is something visceral about being in place where one of the world’s first civilizations began.

— Dr. Paul Tournier

Over six days, we will play, pose, sweat, serve, celebrate, experience and elucidate. Far too often there is a separation of “America-lite Mexico” and “local Mexico.” Why do we travel if to retreat into the comfort of doing what we’ve always done? This “retreat” is an exploration of what is beyond our comfort zones: physically, mentally, spiritually, geographically, culturally, socio-economically and gastronomically. There are plenty of opportunities to take in the splendor of the Mayan Riviera visiting its’ various white sand beaches. Dinner will be another opportunity to explore local cuisine and support local businesses rather than opting for an all-inclusive nondescript menu. Participants will partake in a cooking class at a real Mexican home.

Ashtanga 10-Day Challenge | IV

to end all parties (1).png
Now begins the study of yoga.
— Pantanjali's Yoga Sutras 1.1

What | Ashtanga Yoga is the most practiced style of yoga around the world. It serves as somewhat of an international language in the yoga community- walk into any Ashtanga studio worldwide, and you will all be practicing the same sequence. This challenge is intended to INSPIRE you with an approach that establishes the first building blocks of establishing this dynamic and progressive sequence. The poses with be adjusted to fit the practitioner rather than students trying to mold themselves to look “like the picture.”

Who | This practice is intended to be for everyone- as you are, exactly in this moment. After my ACL reconstruction, I did my own physical therapy using this sequence daily. I was 90% after 6 weeks. Of course there were modifications- these two weeks give you time to digest the practice- to learn these techniques for personalizing the poses to your needs.

When | Monday - Friday (weekends off) 12.3-12.14.18. There are two sessions to choose from: 6-715am, or 1-215pm.

Where | Toula Yoga

Why | Because the holidays are wonderful but leave us exhausted and we need a way to refuel in all aspects- body, mind and spirit.

How | Sign up in person at the studio or Toula’s Mind Body Online portal.

Investment | 10-day Challenge $150 or $130 with paid registration for intro workshop.

to end all parties (3).png

Learn all about the ancient practice of Ashtanga Yoga. Use this as a one day learning opportunity or as a launching pad for the daily Ashtanga 10-Day Challenge starting December 3rd.

What | Ashtanga Yoga is the most practiced style of yoga around the world. It serves as somewhat of an international language in the yoga community- walk into any Ashtanga studio worldwide, and you will all be practicing the same sequence. However, for a novice, a google image search can yield intimidating results. This workshop will be the first building blocks of establishing this dynamic and progressive sequence. This is the primer for joining this vast international practice.

Who | This practice is intended to be for everyone- as you are, exactly in this moment. After my ACL reconstruction, I did my own physical therapy using this sequence daily. I was 90% after 6 weeks. Of course there were modifications- this workshop is an opportunity to learn this techniques for personalizing this poses to your needs.

When | Sunday, December 2nd!  The holiday season is here and this is the gas that will fuel the fire to make it through! There couldn't be a better time to embrace movement and mindfulness.

Where | Toula Yoga

Why | Because this winter was damn hard and we need a way to refuel in all aspects- body, mind and spirit.

How | Follow the link below to Mind Body Online. Sign up for the Intro Workshop, the 2 week challenge or both!

5 days of therapeutic delight in Jeju Island, South Korea
Partner yoga – Therapeutic Flying – Thai Massage

Come join us for this journey of true listening with all that you are. Explore the art of mindful touch down to earth and take it up into the air.

The Lunar Immersion focuses on the healing, relaxing and rejuvenating practices of Thai Massage and therapeutic flying. The Lunar Asana Sequence teaches basic body mechanics with a focus on self-love cultivation, in preparation of the dance of Thai massage. The techniques learned on the floor are then translated to the flying work, using the element of gravity to amplify the healing flow of prana (life force). Often, we will work in teams of three for safety and support, and everyone will have the opportunity to base and fly, heal and be healed.

This training offers invaluable tools for yoga teachers, massage therapists, and energy workers who wish to develop a new dimension of healing touch for students or clients.

$20 Try It Tuesdays | Intro to Yoga

27752560_1620576514703204_8400466306478159869_n.jpg

One by one, we're trying to knock out reasons why not. Yoga is awesome- we're making it super affordable to try. Tuesdays in August, Intro to Yoga class is just 20,000₩ for all four classes. AND, if you like what you're experiencing, you can apply that payment to your next month. But, first things first!

I know trying new things is intimidating. (My first few cello lessons were super painful. God bless that teacher and her encouraging lies of how well I was progressing.) Kaizen aims to be an inclusive, non-intimidating space. No mirrors, no dress code, all are welcome and provided support to make yoga accessible for all capacities and limitations. (Please notify Mindy of any injuries or ongoing pain.)

You will really be amaze at what you will experience how you can grow in just a few classes. You just need to keep showing up! We'll meet you on the mat.

*This class is also available to current students as part of all other membership plans.*

To join- you may pay the class fee with cash in person or via bank transfer to |

Busan Bank #112-2197-7512-01 (Yum Mee Ok)

This special price is a flat rate for the 4 classes. No refunds given for partial attendance. May not be extended or transferred to other classes.

#1 | Hanumanasana

This is kind of a default ground zero for yoga posing. This is the start of the spectacle of yoga- viewing the practice outside as some form of extreme capability rather than a therapeutic tool with benefits to serve everyone.

In week 1, we look at body balance and "strength-based stretching." Rather than finding extreme limits, we use this pose to identify imbalances and rebuilt based on strength. Whether you've been doing splits since childhood or feel like your hamstrings are made of metal, come cultivate your inner monkey god with a deep dive into splits!

Thursday 6.14 | Hip Opening Master Class (lvl II)

Whether it's your first step on your mat or it's like a second home, please join me to start inviting in and cultivating a little "good space (sukham)."

Yoga School | Ashtanga Unit

movement mantra.png
Now begins the study of yoga.
— Pantanjali's Yoga Sutras 1.1

Yoga School is back in session! Come learn about this style of yoga that sets the most solid foundation for any further practice. We will take this practice step by step, breaking down the practice to suit YOUR needs. This style is great because it keeps revisiting the same postures giving you a chance to become familiar, grow your confidence and see progress over time.

This class is for the complete novice. Here, we will break up the "flow" to give more verbal explanation and to troubleshoot in real time. (There are two other Ashtanga classes in the morning and afternoon. The pace of this class will be slower and students will work for 60 minutes as opposed to 75.)

This 10-Day Challenge is the much needed supported chance to shake off the dregs of winter. We will meet M-F for 2 weeks taking you up to the Memorial Day long weekend! Now that will be something to celebrate!

Ashtanga Yoga is the most practiced style of yoga around the world. This is the primer for joining this vast inernational practice.

Don't let Instagram fool ya! This practice is intended to be for everyone- as you are, exactly in this moment. After my ACL reconstruction, I did my own physical therapy using this sequence daily. I was 90% after 6 weeks. Of course there were modifications- this unit is an opportunity to learn this techniques for personalizing this poses to your needs.

Investment: $40
(Receive $20 discount off the 10-Day Challenge if you also sign up for the preview workshop Sunday, May 13.)

Daily Ashtanga Challenge | $150/ $130 (if attending the Intro Workshop) + starts 5/14!

Questions? Please get in touch! PM Mindy Sisco for more details.

Módulo I 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Módulo II 1:15 p.m. a 3:15 p.m. | Inversiones

*** (intermedio: altamente recomendado asistir al taller Backbending, ya que proporciona una preparación completa para el taller de inversión). ***

cyber monday Specials.png

Welcome to our Spring deep dive into asana practice! In winter we used the means of specific peak poses to explore undiscovered parts of our bodies and practice. This March, we widen the focus to dissect different movement patterns. This is good for students looking pinpoint some part of their body that needs some TLC or learn how to start honing in on a goal pose. This is very beneficial for teachers wanting to understand how to break down asana and sequences into their parts. (See below for individual workshop specifics.)

All workshops are appropriate for all levels including beginners. The workshops will be challenging, but doable. You will be introduced to many skills to work with

Workshops are 5 Saturdays in March, 2-4pm.

#1 Hip Opening | 3.3.18

Welcome to the plight of the modern life- constant sitting. Tight hips wreak havoc in a myriad of ways. Forget contortion and cirque du solei- breaking open space in the hips is the key to living pain free. In this workshop we gain practical, everyday tools for undoing everything our daily lives to keep us bound up!

#2 Backbending | 3.10.18

This is very much an extension of workshop #1. What is the most common pain complaint? Low back pain. Again- beautiful shapes are great, but the true power of yoga is in its ability to help us live freely in our bodies without pain.

#3 Twists | 3.17.18

Why twist? Because life isn't all green smoothies and detoxes. Twists are the little supercharge to our digestion that we needs to keep the whole system running smoothly.

102A6202.JPG
102A5092.JPG

#4 Inversions | 3.24.18

Getting upside is so important for helping out your circulation, supporting the immune system and not to mention is helps build our bravery! More than drilling to stand on your hands, we will explore a plethora of ways to get upside down to reap the benefits of inversions at every level of practice. (Please notify Mindy of neck, shoulder and wrist injuries.)

#5 Arm Balances | 3.31.18

It's important to train as smart as we train hard. Particularly with yoga, the shoulders take the brunt of the beating. In this workshop, you will gain strength training techniques to start working towards all your favorite funky shapes without the setbacks of injuries!!!!!
