Elucidate Retreat 2017 | Tulum, MX

ELUCIDATE |

To make lucid or clear.

This program aims to integrate movement with stillness, interaction with introspection, playfulness with sincerity. Tulum, Mexico is nothing short of a slice of heaven on earth. The life there is palpable.

Beyond the obvious beauty of the white sand beaches, there is something visceral about being in place where one of the world’s first civilizations began.

The real meaning of travel, like that of a conversation by the fireside, is the discovery of oneself through contact with other people, and its condition is self-commitment in the dialogue.
— -Dr. Paul Tournier

Over six days, we will play, pose, sweat, celebrate, experience and elucidate. Far too often there is a separation of “America-lite Mexico” and “local Mexico.” Why do we travel if to retreat into the comfort of doing what we’ve always done? This “retreat” is an exploration of what is beyond our comfort zones: physically, mentally, spiritually, geographically, culturally, socio-economically and gastronomically. There are plenty of opportunities to take in the splendor of the Mayan Riviera visiting its’ various white sand beaches. Dinner will be another opportunity to explore local cuisine and support local businesses rather than opting for an all-inclusive nondescript menu. Participants will partake in a cooking class at a real Mexican home.

COST |

$1500 (double/shared) | $1900 (single)

What’s included?

  • Airport shuttle from Cancun to Tulum*
  • Daily transportation between beach, pueblo and excursions
  • Entrance fees to Ruins, lagoon
  • 2x yoga classes/day (non-excursion days)
  • Most meals
  • Yoga photo session w/Mindy (www.iwritelight.net)
  • Accommodations at the amazing Live Tulum

*Flight not included: Andrea can connect you with her travel agent or you can book a flight on your own. Please arrive in the afternoon before 3:00pm on February 4th. This is important for organizing the shuttle. We have a 90 mile drive from Cancun to Tulum and would like to get settled before dark.*

Say, "Yes!" to You!

There is countless research touting the enrichment that comes from investing in experiences rather than stuff. This is very affordable adventure with payment plans available. Blast away those winter blues- while becoming part of the cross-cultural conversation. Most retreats in the area are in the range of $2700+. We've taken the time to develop a supportive network on the ground in Tulum to give you the best, most supported experience while maximizing value.

See you in paradise.....

Winter Acro Camp Lv1&2 (10hr & 15hr) / 카이젠 겨울 아크로요가 집중과정

*****************(한글 내용은 맨 아래에)*****************

Intro to Acro: Base Camp (level I: 10hrs)

Saturday 1/7: 11-4pm | Sunday 1/8: 9-3pm (1hr lunch)

New year, new tricks to learn! This camp is crafted to give a comprehensive introduction to all things AcroYoga. There will be a strong emphasis on basing techniques which we will apply into our Therapeutic Flying work.

Therapeutic Flying takes the principals of Thai Massage into the air in order to access the additional sensation and support of gravity. This helps traction the spine and allows for an amazing "zero gravity" sensation. This is as beneficial for the mind as it is for the body. Speaking from personal experience, therapeutic flying has corrected multiple back problems for me and is beneficial and modifiable for many bodies and ailments.

Spin Cycle | Face the Flow (Level II: 15hrs)

Saturday 1/14: 12-8pm (1hr dinner) | Sunday 1/15: 9-5pm (1hr lunch)

We're always building our base of washing machine know how. This weekend's skills include: London Spin, Pick Pocket, Nunchucks.

This camp we take it a step further constructing a flow of our own. The highest level of learning is synthesis. Rather than dump you in the deep end starting a routine from scratch, you will be given the framework of an original flow from Mindy and Inkyu from which to begin constructing something new!

YogaFesta is BACK! I love YogaFesta and have been very fortunate to have been part of it in many different capacities over the past couple years. The organizer, Moon Choi, has a magical blend of sincere community-mindedness and astute behind-the-scenes know-how that makes for a fantastic annual event.

This year, I bringing AcroYoga flavor to the festival! Please join me for two wonderful workshops where we take poses and partnership to the next level.

Saturday, Nov 19 | 9-11am | Room D | HANDSTANDS IN COUNTERBALANCE

We are taking counterbalance to new heights and building handstands on a variety of foundations. You haven't seen AcroYoga like this! In the spirit of Montreal style, we'll explore "hybrid" (similarly-sized) partnering as opposed to the traditional "flyer/base" set-up we're familiar with. This means no Lady Base is too small!!! Yes you can!!! Skills covered include: foot-to-foot and handstands on thighs. Please be comfortable taking weight on your hands- no neck or wrist injuries!

Sunday, Nov 20 |  9-11am | ACROYOGA-INSPIRED ADJUSTMENTS (for teachers & students)

It's your students's world- you're just living in it! AcroYoga has radically changed how I approach adjustments. AcroYoga, like adjustments, require "reciprocity" : as the teacher, I am not doing the adjustment TO you but WITH you. It a physical conversation. Our ability to "listen" and "respond" non-verbally is a skill that is developed overtime just like any other practice or pose. Come learns skills for reading and receiving your students non-verbal cues and how to guide them into more enlightened connecting with their practice.

This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase talent from around Korea and around the world. Looking forward to meeting you on the mat!

Therapeutic Backbending in Partnership

This workshop focuses on one of the biggest culprits of pain in our daily lives: low back pain.

Back bending has some of the most therapeutic benefits of any asana practice. Come learn how to do it safely while continuing to push the boundaries on the limitless potential of your mind and body!

This series is for a novice looking to proactively manage chronic low back pain, the heavy lifter in need of better body balance, the seasoned yogi smoothing out transitions as part of a regular, established practice.

Back bending is so very near and dear to my heart- I mean that in the least cliché way possible. After accepting low back pain for the better part of a decade, I was so lucky to learn how to reset my movements and use backbends therapeutically. I haven’t been the same since- 100% pain-free.

Bend Me, Shape Me: Hip Opening

This is part 4 of the 4-part Elucidate Retreat Master Series at Yoga Dicha:

Part 1 (Monday, 3/21): Round & Round (Therapeutic Backbending)

Part 2 (Tuesday 3/22): Flip It! (Inversions)

Part 3 (Wednesday 3/23): Focus on Dragonfly (Maksikanagasana)

Part 4 (Thursday 3/24): Bend Me, Shape Me (Hip Opening)

The quickest way to watch a yoga teacher go from zero to 60: "Yoga? I can't even touch my toes!"

Splits are synonymous with yoga. However, from me to you, I'm gonna let you in a little secret- splits don't matter. What does is balancing two parts of a healthy split: mobility and stability.

This is not a splits workshop. Here we're looking at the role of hip mobility in all poses- not just the super stretch ones- and how to access more hip mobility in a variety of configurations. Moreover, we'll rein in and balance that mobility with stability in increasing measure from the foundation of standing balances. You gotta get down to get up!

I highly recommend this workshop for people with knee issues. As someone who's had an ACL reconstruction and is functioning with only a third of my meniscus still intact, I became very acquainted with the principles of this practice as a part of my rehab after surgery. No toe touching required!

Discounts for booking multiple workshops and paying in advance:

Presale: 1 workshop 350mxn pp/ full series 700mxn pp (may be paid to Yoga Dicha)

Dragonfly

Write here...

"Dragonflies are powerful and agile fliers, capable of migrating across oceans, moving in any direction, and changing direction suddenly. In flight, the adult dragonfly can propel itself in six directions...four different styles of flight.[and] a number of flying modes... In certain dragonflies such as darters, when "in cop" with a male, the female sometimes simply glides while the male pulls the pair along by beating his wings." (https://goo.gl/vhlZrC)

Focus on Dragonfly (Maksikanagasana)
The dragonfly's dynamic breadth of movement is the inspiration for this workshop. Just as its inspiration in nature, Dragonfly pose requires balance, dynamism, and variety of pieces working synergistically to create movement.

I am so excited to be in Tulum to play with this pose and these movements. I hope that you will join me in this flight.

This is part three of four workshops as part of the Elucidate Retreat.

Flip It! Inversions

In part II, we're flipping our worlds upside down! Inversions are some of the most exhilarating, and often most frightening, parts of an asana practice. This workshop will explore them from a different perspective.

First and foremost, in this series, you will learn to STOP JUMPING! Laying this kind of foundation takes much more patience, but is a much more solid place from which to move forward.

Second: the wall has it's place in the learning process, but here you'll put it to work, among other fun tools, in a very different way!

As this is workshop rather than a flow class, this is beginner friendly but please be willing to take weight on your hands and neck.

This is part 2 of the 4-part Elucidate Retreat Master Series at Yoga Dicha:

Part 1 (Monday, 3/21): Round & Round (Therapeutic Backbending)

Part 2 (Tuesday 3/22): Flip It! (Inversions)

Part 3 (Wednesday 3/23): Focus on Dragonfly (Maksikanagasana)

Mindy in Des Moines!

I am SOOOO excited to be returning to Radiant OM Yoga for a second year! Robin and her inspired and inspiring team were so much fun last year. Can't wait for version 2.0 this June!

This year, we're doing a special teacher-focused intensive to kick off the weekend:

i. "Giving Guidance: the Art of Tone, Touch & Sequencing" (Friday, 6/19, 1300-1600.)

This workshop gives me an opportunity to share nuggets of wisdom I've gathered studying with such greats as Simon Low and Dheesan Sudhakar. We'll play with ways of crafting a student's experience with the various tools at our disposal: voice, adjustments and organizing poses to maximize therapeutic benefits.

This class is constructed with the yoga teacher in mind but is open for anyone interested in exploring different dimension of his/her practice as well as educators in other arenas.

Cost: $50/$45 (early bird discount by 6/16!)

ii. Therapeutic Backbending (Saturday 1300-1430)

This yoga therapy class calls out the biggest culprit of pain: the lower back. Spring fever=acro playtime! Come join me for a 3hr workshop where we will build up our basing game!

Part i: 2-3:30pm) L-Basing (hip opening and core stability)
Part i focuses on the most fundamental basing position: the L-base. Here we will address challenges on both sides of the equation: opening the hips to lessen the muscular load with better lines and building core stability to allow for greater dynamic transitions.

Part ii: 3:30-5pm) Up & Away! (2-highs, foot-to-hand)
We take to the skies taking our fliers higher than before! Again, we will learn how to build wrist strength and core stability through a variety of drills.
